Therapy, Coaching & Assessment Services
Support for every season you or your family goes through.
Life can feel overwhelming at times, and reaching out for support is a brave step. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about helping you understand yourself more deeply, develop tools that work for you, and accomplish your goals.
BrightSpot Families offers therapy, coaching, and psychological testing for individuals, couples, families, and athletes. Services are available in Bowling Green, Ohio and virtually. Use the links below to jump to the service that fits your situation.
Individual Therapy
Who This Is For:
➜ Anyone dealing with anxiety, OCD, ODD, or depression
➜ Kids and teens dealing with behavioral challenges at home or school
➜ Anyone navigating stress, burnout, life transitions, or identity questions
➜ Anyone who's tried handling it alone and hit a wall
Description:
Sometimes you just need a space that's entirely yours. Individual therapy at BrightSpot is one-on-one support for kids, teens, and adults working through the kind of challenges that are hard to navigate alone: anxiety, depression, OCD, ODD, life transitions, identity, and more. You don't have to be in crisis to start. You just have to be ready to do something different.
Dr. Mata sees individual clients in-person in Bowling Green and virtually across 42 states. Dr. Long is also available for individual therapy sessions with Ohio-based virtual clients.
Family Therapy
Who This Is For:
➜ Families stuck in the same cycles of conflict, shutting down, or talking past each other
➜ Parents navigating a teenager who is pulling away or acting out at home
➜ Families going through a major transition: divorce, loss, relocation, or a new family dynamic
➜ Parents who want to be part of the solution, not just the people who drop their kid off
Description:
Every family has its patterns. The same arguments that start the same way and end the same way. The tension that's become so familiar it almost feels normal. Family therapy at BrightSpot is about breaking those cycles, not by pointing fingers, but by giving every person in the room the tools to communicate, connect, and actually function as a team again.
Dr. Mata works with the whole family, which means parents aren't just spectators. You're part of the process, as involved as you want to be, every step of the way.
Parent Coaching
Who This Is For:
➜ Parents who feel like they're trying everything, and nothing is sticking
➜ Parents of kids with anxiety, ODD, ADHD, or other behavioral challenges who want to show up more effectively at home
➜ Parents who want to communicate with their teenager without every conversation turning into a fight
➜ Parents who've read the books, downloaded the apps, and are still stuck
Description:
Because your kid didn't come with a manual, we'll build one together, one practical session at a time. Parent coaching with Dr. Mata is not a parenting class, a lecture, or a one-size-fits-all program. It's a personalized, session-by-session process built around your child, your family, and the specific situations that are giving you the most trouble right now.
You'll leave every session with something you can actually use, not vague advice or a theory, but concrete strategies for the real moments that happen in your house. Dr. Mata has sat across from hundreds of parents navigating exactly what you're navigating. She wrote a book about it. She knows what works.
Sports Psychology Coaching
Who This Is For:
➜ Teen and adult athletes dealing with performance anxiety, pre-competition nerves, or confidence drops
➜ Athletes navigating burnout, a loss of love for their sport, or figuring out who they are beyond athletics
➜ Athletes recovering from injury and struggling with the mental side of coming back
➜ Parents of athletes who have noticed a shift in their kid's mindset, motivation, or joy in competing
➜ Coaches looking for a specialist to refer athletes to for mental performance support
Description:
The mental side of sports is the part most coaches can't fully address, and most therapists aren't equipped to touch. Sport psychology at BrightSpot bridges that gap. Dr. Long works with teen and adult athletes nationwide on the mental performance challenges that show up on the field, the court, the track, and everywhere in between — performance anxiety, burnout, slumps, confidence issues, identity beyond sport, and the psychological weight of major transitions like injuries, transfers, or stepping away entirely.
Dr. Long isn't a general therapist who dabbles in sports. He played Division 1 and Division 2 college football. He trained at UC Davis and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at The Ohio State University. He speaks athlete, because he was one.
Couples Therapy
Who This Is For:
➜ Couples stuck in the same patterns of conflict, withdrawal, or miscommunication
➜ Partners navigating a major life transition: a new baby, a career change, a loss, or a move
➜ Couples working through infidelity or a breach of trust who want to make an informed decision about the relationship
➜ Couples who feel more like roommates than partners and want to find their way back to each other
Description:
Most couples don't come to therapy because things are catastrophic. They come because the same arguments keep happening, the distance keeps growing, and neither person knows how to close it. Couples therapy at BrightSpot is for the couples who want to stop talking past each other and actually get somewhere, whether that means rebuilding connection, improving communication, navigating a major life change together, or working through a breach of trust.
Dr. Mata works with both of you, not as a referee, but as someone who can help you understand what's actually driving the disconnect and give you the tools to do something about it.
Psychological Testing
Who This Is For:
➜ Parents who suspect ADHD but haven't been able to get a formal evaluation
➜ Kids and teens who are struggling academically or behaviorally, and no one has been able to explain why
➜ Parents who want to rule ADHD in or out before pursuing other interventions
➜ Families who've received inconsistent feedback from teachers, pediatricians, or previous evaluators and want clarity
Description:
If you've been watching your child struggle in school, at home, or socially, and wondering whether ADHD is part of the picture, this is where you get a real answer. ADHD testing at BrightSpot is a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment conducted by Dr. Mata that goes beyond a quick checklist. It's a thorough evaluation designed to give you a clear, accurate picture of what's going on and what to do about it.
A diagnosis doesn't define your child. It gives you the information you need to get them the right support: at school, at home, and beyond.
